A Local Story Of Good Clothes

A THREAD THROUGH GENERATIONS

... and a few new stitches along the way

Before Tesuji became a label, there were women in a family making clothes. Daughters watched their mothers sew, learned by trying and developed their own feel for fabric. The Turkish brand grew from these memories, carrying that familiarity with making into a collection of relaxed clothes with some rather clever details.

That sewing heritage later developed through an interest in natural dyeing and slower production methods. Today, Tesuji describes a small-scale operation working with local makers, where the team can remain involved in production and working conditions. Fair wages and respect for traditional skills are among its stated commitments.

Reusing and choosing the fabric is already part of designing at Tesuji. Cotton, linen, hemp and gauzy textiles feature in its material philosophy, with an emphasis on minimal processing. Some cloth is left undyed, some receives natural colour, and some comes from quality textiles left unused by larger producers. Its texture and original tone help shape the design; overlooked fabric gets another chance. Handcrafted in Istanbul, the brand extends its interest in useful design into daily activities and creative work.

Keeping production small allows the team, according to Tesuji, to stay involved in working conditions and how its collections are made. Fair wages, local craftsmanship and more accessible pricing are among its commitments. These choices concern the people behind the clothes as much as those buying them.

Tesuji designs for continued wear across seasons. The real test happens when the clothes are yours: you reach for them on a rushed morning, pack them again, find another way to wear them. Being worn often is how a piece earns its place. For a label built on the memory of making clothes by hand, that seems a fitting ambition.
